When women get their baby to latch and nurse easily, everything else about motherhood is so much more enjoyable, relaxing, beautiful, and yes, easy! I have terrible memories of fumbling through multiple layers of clothing, looking for my breasts, while my oldest baby screamed on my lap because she was so hungry. My daughter already had trouble latching, and it made it that much harder for her when she had to find my breast under all the layers of clothing that I was desperately trying to keep out of her face. As a result, I often had to rush home where I could get almost completely undressed to try and nurse her. Because I, like every other mommy, had to feed my baby every two to three hours, I rarely left home for long periods, and anytime I did it was incredibly stressful.

Although nursing tank tops made it easier to nurse at home, they didn’t make it easier for me to leave the house because tank tops required that I wear pants. Wearing pants for my first two months postpartum was painful. If you’ve given birth, you know that many of us experience trauma that makes it hard to sit down comfortably, never mind wear restrictive clothing.  Furthermore, I had zero interest in squeezing into an old pair of jeans while still carrying the extra baby weight. Needless to say, I didn’t end up nursing my daughter for much longer than 2 months because we just couldn’t figure the whole nursing thing out.

When I gave birth to my second child, nursing was a little bit easier and we were able to nurse for a little more than a year, but the clothing situation still felt like an obstacle. I considered buying an expensive nursing dress to wear to a wedding, but the design didn’t solve any of my issues: I still couldn't nurse my child without all the fabric getting in the way. So instead, I had to undress in the bathroom to feed my son! Yeah, lots of fun . . .

Before I had my third baby, I finally decided that I’d had enough, and designed this dress, which overcomes all the obstacles I experienced nursing my first two children. I became a mom, not an alien - I want to keep my eclectic style!

Wherever you feel like going and whatever you feel like doing – you’ll feel comfortable and look amazing! Go for a picnic at the beach, take a walk in the hills, or enjoy dinner downtown with the baby and your hubs. That’s right, go ahead and actually enjoy motherhood.
